Google Destroys Working Hardware (Again)

This is the second experience I have had whereby 'Google' input has broken what was a working piece of sound hardware.
The previous issue was with a 65" Philips TV & a 'recommended firmware update' (later found out was just in relation to Google App. update) which took my in warranty TV out of action for 18 months.
This time Google has taken working Nest cameras and turned them initially, into Bog standard screenshot devices and now via 'Support' removed them all together - on assumption I was at home and not abroad when I contacted them to query loss of subscription and video capture.
In essence their support provided instructions to 'create a new structure' in order to get video working again and sign up to 'Nest Aware'. These are the actions I was requested to do:
Here are the steps:
1. Remove your camera from the Nest app
2. Uninstall it.
3. Install it in its new home
4. Select the new home in the Nest app.
5. Set it up again with the Nest app.
Only after removing the camera (done via app) was I then requested to get the 6 digit code from camera base and also serial info. Fortunately, I had saved this info. from original installation but it made no difference as there was requirement for me to be within bluetooth range to set up....the response from 'Support'...well...I quote RICA the agents feedback...
"I did what I did. Since we will be doing troubleshooting steps, it's obvious that you must be beside the Nest Camera for this one. Most of our customers would tell us after telling their issue that they are not in their house to do the troubleshooting steps. "
So, we originally had a working security system with multiple cameras installed (post burglary in 2017) - then we only had video snapshots - post Google inept migration - but now have in essence, expensive 'dummy' cameras and no picture/alerts whatsoever.
These are good cameras - the hardware has been let down by destructive technical changes and ill trained support persons who make assumptions before destroying your device functionality.
After ruining our camera functionality the icing on the cake is the way support wrap up their achievements....
"There’s a short survey coming up. Google Nest would appreciate your feedback about your experience today. Thanks for contacting Google Nest. Have a great day! "
In summary - great hardware but 'bejesus' if you get an issue you'd best run for the hills as their support is diabolical!

It didn't pick up my son leaving + plan changes

Nest was great when it came out. I paid $60 a year for 24/7 video monitoring in my son's room. It also included 5 day video history. It was the perfect plan for me..
Recently, they changed their plans and now I have to pay $60 to just see an event history which is whenever the camera picks up sound or movement, it'll turn on and record. EXCEPT that my son was able to get out of his crib, walk across the room, and leave with NO notification from the camera, and no 'event' history on it. Now, Nest is charging $120 for 24/7 video monitoring with a 10 day history. So they want double from what I was paying for the ability to see back 5 extra days.
No thank you. Looking to get a new camera that offers better plans. I honestly feel ripped off.

Misleading information - No compatibility with any smart system! No sensor technology

misleading information about nest products. turns out there is NO sensor technology which is compatible with Nest Thermostats!!! Google misleads by providing lon winded articles on how great Nest Thermo E learning is and how you can setup temperature Sensors in different rooms. All a lie!! do not waste nyour money. iamy so so so regretting this. look for others. waste of time and NOT SMART.

Complete waste of money

Complete waste of money. Excessively complicated and almost impossible to control. Do not even think about it. We have had to throw ours out.

This product is unlikely to film long for Nest Doorbell

It was clear that the company refuses to answer certain questions to avoid you reconsidering buying it. Its motion activated recording only, which is fair. They say its 10 days continuous recording which is fair given that most of the time it won't be recording and you are only getting short clips. However they don't want to say for how long it records for once activated. Whether its for 3 seconds or 2 mins. Because they don't want to give an answer as for some people it would be useless for that short a time. However short clips of 30 seconds at most appears to be the industry standard so knowing how long it records for before it switches off is a massive difference. I am assuming the product is so bad at this its at the lower end which is why they don't want to give an answer and constantly repeat the same aspects of their product to do with timing, which has nothing to do with helping you understand that.

Nest Thermostats Only works with boilers.
This is a scam. No where on the website it says that the UK model doesn't work with A.C.

Warning: Do not buy a Nest

Both thermostat and heat link failed within the first 12 months. Try and get google to help or find a way to contact them is like pulling teeth without novocaine.
Avoid at all costs for your sanity. When you do find your way through thousands of online complaints, google treat you like a thief. They won't replace an item without charging you first for a new on holding you random until you send the faulty product back. It's outrageous.

Activity zones don’t work the camera…

Activity zones don’t work the camera picks everything up that you don’t want and nothing that you do! The notifications are just a waste of time! If you want to pic up car head lights and not intruders this is the product for you.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WARRANTY EXPERIENCE

I had the exact same experience as someone else on this forum had just a few days ago. Our thermostat was faulty. It was still under warranty, and they would only deal directly with us (the homeowner) not the heating company that PURCHASED and installed it. Similar to the other review, we had to provide a credit card ONLY USING GOOGLE PAY and place a hold for the full amount of the unit on hold until they received the old one back. In addition to this the SERVICE WAS HORRIFIC. Each phone call was an hour long. Each call is associated with a new case number. Even when I called to confirm that the returned item was received, I was on hold for close to 15 minutes.
I believe it should be ILLEGAL to insist that a customer use ONLY a google account to do the return. Imagine an elderly person who may not be able to figure this out and doesn't have an email account trying to deal with this. The company should be fined. I will never EVER use another nest product.

Nest thermostat unreliable, customer service non-existent

Had a Nest thermostat which became unreliable. Bit of searching on the internet told me there is a know fault in gen 2 models that means they lose Wi-Fi contact. At one point apparently they were replacing these faulty models but since google took over apparently not. Customer service took me on a question and answer session over three days and then told me my device was out of warranty, surely they knew that the moment I gave them the serial number! My advice is if you are looking for a remote monitoring solution you can rely on look else where.

WiFi stopped working with the Nest…

WiFi stopped working with the Nest after two months. No issues with our internet everything else in home works 100%. Contacted Google and they agreed to replace. However, I haven’t received a replacement unit. I have emailed numerous times to Google c/s since with no response. So all I have is a glorified programmable thermostat. I purchased the Nest for it’s away from home use (app). I bought through Columbia Gas and they have washed their hands of it too. No Google products ever again, period.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced

The worst customer service I have ever experienced, I’ve been waiting for a replacement thermostat since late September. Despite spending four hours on hold on four separate occasions I still don’t have a replacement. I’ve escalated it to management but they seem to care as little as the customer service staff do.
It’s honestly unbelievable how poor they are, please get yourself a Hive thermostat and avoid Nest at all cost!
